The traditional way of dressing in India tends to vary with the males and females. This remains to be practiced in the rural areas. Young girls, before they reach puberty, wear a langa (long skirt), and a choli on top of it. The langa or lehanga is a type of pleated skirt that is tied around the waist, leaving the midriff and back bare.
The teenage Indian girls wear half-saris which are a three-piece set that consists of a langa, choli, and a stole which is wrapped similarly like a sari. It is the women who usually wear the full saris.
Another common attire used by Indian women would be the salwar-kameez. This is a type of dress that was typically used in the northern part of India. They were adored for its comfort especially in Punjab and Kashmir. Now it has spread across all Indian regions. They also wear what is called salwars, which are loose pants or trousers which are drawn tightly around the ankles and waist. The kameez, which is a long and loose piece of garment, is worn over the salwar. Similar to the salwar is the churidar which is tightly fitted to the thighs, hips, and ankles.
For men, the traditional clothing consists of long, loose shirts and pants made from different types of fabric ranging from cotton to fine silk. In Rajasthan, there are men who accessorize with a turban and a twisted mustache.
